Keep a backup
Copy your current version and configuration. Back up data if the script uses a database. Plan how to roll back to the previous version.

Review the changes
Read the publisher’s release notes. A new version may require new settings, a migration or different dependencies.

Test before replacing
Download the version available for your purchase. Compare configuration files instead of overwriting new ones with old copies. Test the update outside production before deploying it.
